Freddie Roach furious over Amir Khan comparing himself to Manny Pacquiao – Boxing News
Hall of Famer trainer Freddie Roach is furious over former WBA and IBF champion Amir Khan comparing himself with former WBO champion Manny Pacquiao. Roach, who coached Khan for almost three years, is Pacquiao’s trainer as well. According to Roach, Pacquiao
would not lose a single round against Danny Garcia, the unbeaten American fighter who knocked Amir Khan out.
Khan lost to Garcia on July 14 this year via fourth round knockout. In order to cover up his blunders, the British-Pakistani boxer claimed Roach does not give him enough time and instead focuses more on Pacquiao. However, Roach believes he spends the same
time and energy on training Khan too and losing to Garcia was due to his Khan’s own blunders.
“I wanted [Pacquiao] to fight the guy Garcia, Danny Garcia,” said Roach in an interview to Examiner.com. “I wanted that fight because Amir Khan says that I don't teach defence to him and Manny Pacquiao.”
“Why did he compare himself to Manny Pacquiao? It depends what I taught him. Let's see what Manny does with your last opponent. Manny wouldn't lose a round.”
Roach then spoke of Pacquiao’s upcoming fight against long time foe Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8. Roach admitted that he is not happy with the fight, since Marquez has been Pacquiao’s toughest opponent to date.
“The game plan I've set for him for the last three fights, I know it's the right game plan, but the thing is, it's not working in the fights. I haven't come up with a good idea yet to know what I need to do for him to win that fight but I'm thinking every
day. As I watch tapes of his opponent, we will come up with an answer.”
Roach was hoping Pacquiao to go for a match against the current WBO welterweight titlist
