Freddie Roach happy as team waives Baguio City goodbye
Freddie Roach is happy to pack his bags and continue training his superstar fighter Manny Pacquiao in Los Angeles.
The legendary trainer was happy with how Manny finished his last day of training in Baguio City, Philippines, sparring a tough eleven rounds with partners Amir Khan, Michael Medina and Glen Tapia, and looking undeniably sharper and more comfortable every
round.
Pacquiao’s improvements bore their mark on his partners’ faces, with both Khan and Tapia suffering bloody noses after four rounds with the Philippine congressman.
Pacquiao’s abilities have notably heightened since he stopped juggling political duties with professional ones.
Roach, who had expressed disappointment with Pacquiao up until a few days ago, breathed a sigh of relief, as the fighter seemed to be returning to form.
For the better part of two weeks, Pacquiao has endured intense sparring sessions, as well as specialized isometric routines designed to bulk him up and preserve his explosive speed.
In an interview with GMA News after the training session, Roach summed up that it was the "...best training day for him [because he has been] working on the right hand for eight years now." Roach is sure that Pacquiao's right hand will be responsible
for the knockout punch when he faces Antonio Margarito on November 13.
The two will be fighting at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, for a hungry 70,000 people.
As it stands, Pacquiao has sparred 57 rounds in Manila and Baguio City.
He is set for roadwork in the morning at the Rizal Memorial track Friday, and will then be heading to the Elorde boxing gym in Quezon City, where he will wrap up training with a final workout and sparring session.
Recently, Roach offered Pacquiao’s sparring partners $1000 if they could knock him down in the ring. So far, none have been able to collect.
