Freddie Roach hits back at Amir Khan for allegations – Boxing News
Hall of Famer trainer Freddie Roach is furious over Briton fighter Amir Khan’s recent claims stating that he fired Roach due to his Parkinson’s disease. Khan, who parted his ways with Roach following his fourth round knockout loss to American fighter Danny
Garcia, has asserted that one of the reasons why he left Roach was due to the latter’s deteriorating health.
Khan fired Roach in August, stating that it is time for him to add a new trainer to his arsenal. Never before did the Briton spoke of Roach’s health until now.
“It’s hard to see him older and getting worse,” said Khan. “Freddie, with the Parkinson’s Disease, he was struggling with instructions and couldn’t move as well.”
While Khan believes it was Roach’s illness that impeded him from performing his job up to the mark, the Hall of Famer trainer maintains nothing as such has ever happened.
“If that was true, why would he say to me fire Manny Pacquiao and Chavez Junior and they would keep me?” said Roach.
“Him, his father, his lawyer and his uncle all said that. It had nothing to do with Parkinson’s. Parkinson’s had nothing to do with it. They know that. And I wish them the best of luck.”
Roach has been named Trainer of the Year thrice in the last four years, making him one of the most renowned trainers of our generation. Surely, if he was unable to perform his job, fighters like Pacquiao would not be working with him even today.
Khan is currently scheduled to face American unbeaten fighter Carlos Molina on December 15 at Los Angeles’ Sports Arena.
The former WBA and IBF unified champion is currently under the training of Virgil Hunter, last year’s trainer of the year. Recently, Khan compared Hunter’s training skills with that of Roach, saying the former has taught him techniques Roach could not.
Unfortunately, Khan has yet not learnt much from his loss to Garcia. Instead, as always, he has chosen to throw the blame on someone else, and this time it is his former trainer. It should be noted here that Roach was the person who had revived Khan’s career
following his knockout loss to Breidis Prescott.
