Freddie Roach is ready to train Georges St-Pierre for fight against Anderson Silva – UFC News
Hall of Famer boxing trainer Freddie Roach is willing to train UFC welterweight titlist Georges St-Pierre for a super-fight against middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Roach, who is currently training Filipino fight king Manny Pacquiao for his coming fight
against Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez, believes GSP can easily beat Silva, only if he knows how and when to score.
“If they did fight, I do know the style of Anderson very well,” said Roach in an interview with Sherdog Radio. “I know how he thinks a little bit. I know how he likes to lay on the ropes and how he likes to counterpunch a lot. We'd have to come up with the
perfect game plan and we'd have to fight a perfect fight to win that one. There's nothing impossible in the world. ... Georges is definitely my guy and I'd train him to win that fight. We'd do the best we can, and I'll you one thing: It would be a war.”
Roach is already working with GSP to refine the Montreal based fighter’s boxing skills. The Hall of Famer trainer has previously worked with Anderson Silva as well, which is why he is so confident when he says he ‘knows’ Silva’s style.
According to Roach, the strategy to defeat Silva is to set up traps and let him walk into combinations. Roach added that he does not care about people’s mistakes but he observes their habits. The three time trainer of the year asserted that one needs to
study the tapes over and over again to see how a fighter fights and where he loses his guard.
For now, GSP is scheduled to take on interim champion Carlos Condit on November 17, this Saturday, at UFC 154 in Montreal, Canada. It will be GSP’s comeback fight after almost 19 months of temporary retirement from the game. In other words, it is a big day
for St-Pierre as he will have to prove himself worthy of keeping the welterweight title by defeating the interim champion.
If GSP wins, he will move on to a super-fight against Anderson Silva soon.
