Freddie Roach knew Pacquiao would lose – Boxing News
Hall of Famer trainer Freddie Roach revealed that he had an idea of something being wrong while he was at the ringside on past Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Manny Pacquiao, Roach’s fighter, had put up a great performance after three years yet he
lost to Bradley via split decision. According to Roach, when the first card was announced which had Pacquiao with a score of 115-113, he knew something was wrong.
However, Roach defends his fighter saying, “I think Manny had his best performance since the Miguel Cotto fight (in 2009) and he clearly won the fight. When I heard that (Roth’s score of 115-113), I knew something wasn’t right.”
He added, “The fight was not even close. I told Manny to get a knockout in the 11th round not because we were losing but because I wanted him to get a knockout.”
Freddie Roach was highly disappointed over Pacquiao’s loss, like all others at the ringside and in the arena. Fans booed when Bradley was given the title. Even Bradley himself was not sure if he won the fight or not. When asked in the post-bout interview
whether he believed he won, Bradley was unsure. The new WBO welterweight champion said that he would go home and review the match to decide if he actually won.
Earlier today, Bradley’s statement came in saying he watched the fight and he is proud of himself to defeat Manny Pacquiao. Bradley appreciated Manny’s fighting skills saying he is one of the best fighters in the world. However, Bradley did not acknowledge
the fact that Pacquiao is the fastest. According to Bradley, he has faced speedier opponents than Pacquiao.
Pacquiao was humble enough to say he gave in his best but his best was not enough, in the post-bout interview. However, Pacquiao revealed that he would definitely go for a rematch.
As of now, Bob Arum, promoter for both the fighters, revealed that he is not looking forward to a rematch right now. Instead, he wants the WBO and the Nevada State Athletic Commission to review the fight results and decide what went wrong in the arena.
