Freddie Roach picks Andre Ward over Carl Froch in their Super Six Final – Boxing news
Freddie Roach, who is the trainer of eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao and the currently unified WBA Super and IBF Light Welterweight Champion Amir Khan, has picked the undefeated American superstar, Andre Ward over Carl Froch, who is a two-time
and the reigning World Boxing Council Super Middleweight champion.
The 27-year-old Ward, who is the current World Boxing Association Super World Super Middleweight Champion, is set to meet the Nottingham’s Cobra, Froch, in their much-anticipated ‘winner takes all’ final of the Super Six World Boxing Classic on December
17, 2011 at the Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City in New Jersey and Roach reckons it will be Ward’s night.
The 51-year-old trainer, Roach, who is one of the most well-known boxing trainers and a former professional boxer, in his interview stated Ward is a very skilled boxer who has not been recognised by much as of yet.
Though Roach admitted Froch, who has won 28 of his 29 professional fights, including 20 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, is also a very tough opponent for anyone, he said he still thinks Ward will emerge as a winner.
Froch told On the Ropes Boxing Radio, “You know I picked Andre to win that tournament from the beginning. He’s a very great boxer. I think he’s a much better boxer than given credit for. Froch has really looked good though. He’s game and he comes to fight.
I think it’s a very good fight, but I picked Ward to be the winner of that tournament and I still stand by that.”
Ward has never been defeated in the ring as of yet. He holds a perfect record of winning all of his 24 professional fights, with 13 of them winning by the way of a knockout. Moreover, Ward, who won a Gold Medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics, is also considered
as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
However, let’s if he can really protect his unbeaten record once again because Froch has claimed he will become the first man to beat Ward this December.
