Freddie Roach, who is one of the most well-known boxing trainers in the world, reckons Floyd Mayweather is capable of knocking out Victor Ortiz in their bout.
The current WBC Emeritus World Super Welterweight Champion, Floyd Mayweather, is set to take on the Vicious, Victor Ortiz on September 17, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and many people think Mayweather cannot beat Ortiz with a knockout.
However, Roach believes Mayweather, who has won all of his 41 fights including 25 by the way of a knockout, is capable of securing a knockout win over Ortiz.
The 51-year-old Irish-American trainer, Roach, told the media if Victor loses control of his emotions and walks into Mayweather, he will most probably get a knockout punch.
“Can Mayweather knock him out? If he makes Vic get a little too aggressive and walks him into a counter shot. That's the kind of power he usually has,” Roach said.
In the end, Freddie ‘The Choir Boy’ Roach commented on the 24-year-old pugilist, Ortiz. He stated Ortiz is a strong boxer in this weight division and he has always liked him to be in a higher weight division.
He also advised Ortiz not to step in the ring against the lightweight boxers, as he thinks otherwise he will simply destroy his career.
He said, “Ortiz is strong at the weight, Roach said. I've always liked him at the higher weight. I've been telling him for years to move up in weight. He walks around at 165 and he was fighting at 140. He was killing himself.”
Roach also mentioned Ortiz’s sparring sessions with the Fighting Pride of Philippines, Manny Pacquiao. He claimed Ortiz does one of the best sparring sessions he has ever seen but at the weight of 150lbs.
“You should see him when he's in the gym at 150, sparring with Pacquiao, if you want to see some of the best sparring sessions you've ever seen in your life,” he said.
