Freddie Roach reveals Manny Pacquiao is way ahead of his training schedule – Boxing news
Freddie Roach, who is the trainer of eight-division world champion, Manny Pacquiao, has revealed his fighter, who is the current World Boxing Organisation Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion),
is going way ahead of his training schedule.
The Fighting Pride of Philippines, Manny ‘Pac-Man’ Pacquiao, is set to take on the Mexican Dinamita, Juan Manuel Marquez, in their much-anticipated trilogy bout on November 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena
in Las Vegas, Nevada and Roach believes his fighter will emerge as a winner once again.
The 51-year-old trainer, who is also known as Master Roach, told the media Pacquiao is going way ahead of the schedule and he is worried he doesn’t overdo the training.
"We're way ahead of where we usually are, like 75-80% of where we should be by fight night," Roach said. "We're usually around 50% right now. I have to make sure we don't overdo it."
Meanwhile, Pacquiao, who is a winner of 53 of his 58 professional fights (2 Draws), with 38 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, insisted he just wants to be gradual in his training.
"I'm focusing on my strength and speed," Pacquiao said. "They're watching my body, so I don't become too big. I control my training, step by step, until the time comes to fight. I want to be gradual in
my training."
Pacquiao-Marquez trilogy bout is one of the most eagerly awaited bouts in the sport, as there is a lot of rivalry between both fighters. They first met back in May 2004 at the same MGM Arena and their
fight ended up in a controversial draw. Their second meeting came four years late in March 2008 at the Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas and this time it was Pacquiao who was awarded with split decision and another controversial ending.
Therefore, their upcoming fight is being considered by many to have all the hallmarks of being an absolute classic. Let’s see if Pacquiao can really shrug off Marquez this time because Marquez has also
waited three years to avenge his defeat.
