Freddie Roach reveals Pacquiao is better than ever – Boxing News
We are just hours away from the biggest boxing showdown in recent history, the fourth fight between Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao and Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez. It will be the fourth fight between the two, and probably the biggest one. Since
Pacquiao has already won two fights out of three with the first one ending up in a tie.
Now, while Marquez has bulked up and he is relying on his muscle mass and strength to defeat Pacquiao, the latter is relying on his speed and intensity to put Marquez on the mat. According to Pacquiao’s coach Freddie Roach, the Filipino fight machine is
better than ever and ready to take on Marquez.
“Manny doesn’t spar that way. He doesn’t knock sparring partners down. But this time was different. Then some guy from Sweden showed up and wanted to spar with Manny. So we let him. Manny knocked him down. He never came back,” said Roach who revealed Pacquiao
knocked down his sparring mates after almost four years.
“I always work as a ‘catcher’ with Manny. I put the big chest protector on and he works the body and I will tell you he has never hit me as hard — never — as he did this last month. It hurt so much he felt he had to say he was sorry,” Roach added.
For now, Pacquiao stands as the favourite for the fight but Marquez has made enough statements to assure fans he is going to win. The fight has already acquired maximum hype and it is being considered among the most thrilling ones of our generation.
For Pacquiao, this fight is an essential win since he is coming off a controversial split decision loss to Timothy Bradley. On the other hand, the fight is equally important for Marquez to win, if the Mexican wants to eventually prove he is better than Pacquiao.
If Pacquiao wins, he will be in a better place to negotiate a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr, the current WBC welterweight titlist and probably Pacquiao’s biggest rival. If he loses, chances are he will go down the rails.
