Freddie Roach reveals his master plan for Khan to defeat Peterson – Boxing News
In his recent media interaction regarding the Khan vs. Peterson rematch, Hall of Famer Boxing coach Freddie Roach came up saying that he has a master plan for Khan to defeat Peterson. According to Roach, he has devised a solid strategy for Khan and if the
British-Pakistani pugilist follows it, he will taste triumph.
Roach said, “The biggest thing is to keep the fight in the middle of the ring and not lay on the ropes. If he lays on the ropes, Peterson can bang on the body really hard and then he can come on top. Laying on the ropes, that might work in the amateurs,
but it doesn't work in professional boxing. We're going to be boxing a lot smarter in the center of the ring. And when he comes in with his head low - instead of pushing him off we'll catch him coming in with the uppercuts and hooks. I have a good strategy
worked out for Amir and if we follow it I think we'll be good. I think Amir will be too much for him in this fight and I really look forward to this rematch.”
Freddie Roach’s strategy is not just based on Peterson’s fighting but it also incorporates solutions for the mistakes Khan admitted in his first encounter with the American in December 2011. While Peterson has a big head and he loves pushing it in his opponent’s
face, Khan loves to do some pushing and lay on the ropes. Even though Khan’s fighting style, which he says is inspired by Muhammad Ali, has been working well for him since the beginning, it did not really work against Peterson. In fact, it was Khan’s mistake
of pushing Peterson, which led him to the loss. Most critics even said that Peterson did not have a major hand in his victory, it was just Khan’s blunder that made him lose his titles.
As for now, both the pugilists are training hard for the match that is scheduled for May 19 at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. The match will be Khan’s last chance to grab his titles back from Peterson.
