Freddie Roach says Juan Manuel Marquez more competitive than Shane Mosley – Boxing news
American boxing trainer and a former professional boxer, Frederick “Freddie” Roach believes that his client Manny Pacquiao’s upcoming fight is going to be much more popular, exciting and more furious than against Shane Mosley.
In the bout, the world best pound-for-pound Filipino star Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao is going take on Juan Manuel Marquez for the WBO Welterweight World Title on November 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, United States.
Roach has been so impressive that he has now become one of the greatest training resources ever in the boxing world. He has been voted as the trainer of the year by the Boxing Writers Association of America in 2003, 2006, 2008 and 2009.
He is not just performing his duties for Pacquiao but he is also assisting the Ultimate Fighting Champion (UFC) welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan.
Mosley has faced a lot of criticism from the boxing fans because of his poor performance against the iconic Pacman. He lost the decision against him on May 7, 2011 fighting at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, United States. He seems unwilling to
take that bout until the end. However, Roach’s point of view could be a fact in a sense that Pacquiao is now facing Marquez on the same floor. Pacquiao has never been defeated by anyone expect Erik Morales fighting on the same floor in his career.
According to Roach, that is going to be the biggest night ever because both the fighters are in their primetime. However, he thinks Marquez is more determined and focused than Mosley to win that competitive bout.
“Mosley was a letdown, but I know it won't be that what with Marquez,” said Roach from the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood. “He [Marquez] has big [explicit].”
Marquez and Pacquiao have been face to face in the ring on a couple of times in their careers. The result of the first fight was a controversial draw between the two greats. However, Marquez lost in their second meeting on March 15, 2008 at the Mandalay
Bay in Las Vegas, United States.
The congressman, Pacquiao won the WBC and vacated the Ring Super Featherweight World Title in the process.
However, this time Marquez is being trained under the useful guidelines of Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain. He has improved and learnt enough to challenge everyone now.
He said, “He thinks he won the first two times and that he was robbed, he is coming looking for revenge and has a good trainer (Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain) and they have a good relationship.”
Let’s hope the fight between the two boxing stars is competitive and an entertaining one for the fans in November.
