Freddie Roach: the judges gave the title to Bradley, he did not win it – Boxing News
Hall of Famer coach Freddie Roach believes that Timothy Bradley did not win the WBO Welterweight title from Manny Pacquiao on June 9, instead the judges handed it over to him in a silver platter. Like almost any other Pacquiao admirer, even Roach is furious
over the split decision victory for Bradley. According to Roach, each and everyone who saw the fight, including journalists, former fighters, current fighters and analysts, saw Pacquiao winning, except for the two judges.
In his recent interview, Roach commented, “Manny did not lose the title, it was given to Bradley almost in a silver platter. Bradley did not win it, the judges gave it to him. Everybody who watched the fight, from the sportswriters, boxing officials, plain
enthusiasts saw Manny winning, except the two judges (Duane Ford and CJ Ross). What they did to him is unfair. Definitely, Manny doesn’t deserve what he got at a time when the WBO itself had honored him with a Diamond Ring. Manny, as they said, is the face
of boxing today. He is, in fact, considered the savior of the sport that is in a near dying state. Why do this to him?”
According to most analysts, Pacquiao won at least eight of the rounds. However, when the decision was announced in Bradley’s favour, fans and analysts in the arena were appalled. Even Pacquiao himself could not believe the decision but he accepted it and
congratulated Bradley for the victory.
Last week, the World Boxing Organisation released results of its official fight review of Pacquiao vs. Bradley. The review of the fight showed Pacquiao as the winner by a big margin. In other words, it proved that Pacquiao’s reaction to the results on June
9 was justified.
For now, the WBO has ordered a rematch between Pacquiao and Bradley, something that was already in the process of being pursued by the Filipino. The WBO’s results will not affect the official results of the fight, as the organisation does not have the authority
to do so. As Roach has put it, the title has already been handed over to Bradley so only a rematch can show the world that whatever happened was wrong.
