Freddie Roach thinks time has come for Shane Mosley to call it a day – Boxing news
Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach believes that the 39-year-old Shane Mosley should consider retirement now.
Roach was very disappointed with the way Mosley fought last Saturday against his fighter who easily retained his WBO Welterweight title after a unanimous 12 round decision by the scores 119-108, 120-108 and 120-107 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas,
Nevada.
“I don't think he tried to win the fight,” Roach said. “He just tried to survive, and when you get to that point in boxing, it's time to call it a day.”
‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley (46-7-1, 39 Knockouts) also disappointed Pacquiao and with him a 16,412 strong crowd. Though he fought well in the first round, he straightaway went into the survival mode from the following second round.
“The people want to see exchanging punches,” Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KOs) said. “They want to see a good fight. That's what I want. But Mosley doesn't want to fight toe-to-toe. He's always running. Every time I want to throw a lot of punches, he goes away.”
Mosley, for the first time in eighteen years, was knocked down to the floor in the third round when he received a devastating left hander from his opponent and afterwards it looked as if he is only trying not to get clocked again.
“It didn't seem like a big shot when he threw it,” Mosley said of the knockdown punch. “But the impact of it was strong.”
Mosley could only manage in winning the tenth round on one judge’s card and a 10-10 draw on another when he was credited for a knockdown.
Mosley, who is now 0-2-1 over his last three fights said, “At 39 I still feel young, but I guess Father Time catches up with you.”
Shane Mosley has begun his own promotional company and he hopes to make it a viable business. After his recent performance against Pacquiao, it seems as if he will have to make it his new full-time job.
