Freddie Roach: we are winning fights and not getting the decisions – Boxing News
Hall of Famer coach Freddie Roach is disappointed over his fighters’ last two defeats. Manny Pacquiao, Roach’s number 1 fighter lost to Timothy Bradley recently, while Amir Khan, Roach’s number 2 fighter, lost to Lamont Peterson last year in December.
After watching both of his best fighters lose via controversial decisions, Roach believes Amir Khan should not be relying on the judges anymore. In his recent interview, the well-respected trainer said, “I’m worried about decisions since Manny Pacquiao’s
fight. You look at Amir’s fight with Peterson and he won that fight.”
Roach believes all of this is happening due to personal enmity. Remarking the judges for their insolence, Roach said, “The ones who have brought it up are my amateur kids. They’re going to tournaments, killing guys, but because they’re from the Wild Card,
they’re losing.”
“It’s getting so bad, I have to have my amateurs going into tournaments unattached to have a better chance. It’s a serious concern and I’m not joking. It’s carrying over to the pros because we’re winning fights and not getting the decisions.”
Roach believes he is the most successful coach in the history of boxing, and probably that is the reason as to why he and his fighters are being targeted.
According to Roach, others are jealous of the success he and his Wild Card Gym has acquired in the recent years. Keeping this in mind, Roach wants the former IBF and WBA light welterweight titlist Amir Khan to knockout Danny Garcia on July 14, instead of
relying on the judges for points.
Danny Garcia will be defending his WBC light welterweight title against Khan at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. In addition, the vacant WBA light welterweight title will be on the line too.
Freddie Roach is tired of judges giving controversial decisions. According to most analysts, Pacquiao won the fight against Bradley on June 9 yet Bradley was awarded the victory and Pacquiao’s WBO welterweight title.
For now, Khan is in ending his training camp, with the goal of beating Danny Garcia brutally in the ring at the Mandalay Bay Resort.
