Freddy Galvis receives 50-game suspension from MLB for using metabolite of Clostebol - MLB Update
Major League Baseball bans Freddy Galvis for 50 games for testing positive of an illegal product, metabolite of Clostebol. Galvis was on disabled list due to back injury and was on his way to come back to the season. The fact the Philadelphia Phillies’ offence
has been struggling; Galvis was needed in the line-up by the club.
Galvis was brought, in the first place, owing to an injury of the second baseman Chase Utley.
As a replacement, he performed the role reasonably well. With a .226 batting average, along with three home-runs and 24 RBIs, he was proving one of the rare bright spots for a floundering offence of the Phillies.
Back strain that led to his DL stint impeded the progress. The club which was already deserted by the absence of two premier hitters, Ryan Howard and Chase Utley, had another setback.
As MLB has declared the suspension now, his chances to return anytime soon are very unlikely. When he completes the 50-game ban he will be less probable to make to the line-up. By then, Utley will have returned and therefore one can imagine that his stint
in the season has ended.
When it was inquired from Galvis, he was h**l-bent to prove that he never took such a substance. Establishing the contention that he used only that material which was recommended by the team, he expressed his surprised over being caught for something he
has not committed.
"I have not and never would knowingly use anything illegal to enhance my performance. I have always tried to follow the team's strength and conditioning methods, listen to the trainers, work out hard and eat right. Unfortunately, the rules are the rules
and I will be suspended," Galvis said.
Suspension has set the precedent for potential violators of the rules. Chances are the practice will be reduced after this punishment.
Galvis will be thoroughly disheartened on the announcement. Serving a 50-game ban is always hard for a player. Only way he can mitigate his worries now is by making a strong comeback after the ban and becoming a great hitter.
