Freddy Galvis suffers back strain and is on 15-day Disabled List - MLB Update
The Philadelphia Phillies’ list of injuries expands as another player Freddy Galvis finds his way onto the Disabled List. Bad-luck has been part and parcel of the Phillies’ expedition this year. Right from the very first day of the season, malaise of injuries
has plagued their progress.
So hapless they have been, even they began the season with two of their premier hitters, Chase Utley and Ryan Howard, out. Hardly the impact of their absence was neutralised before some of the active players also sustained injuries, putting a serious dent
to their progress. A dismal standing on National League East Division Table amply explains their miseries.
Galvis, who had come to replace Chase Utley, is a latest victim. Far from becoming a pure replacement of Utley, at-least he was bringing RBIs and turning out to be a bright spot for an offence, which has been poor, to say the least.
Before his injury, Roy Halladay, the Phillies’ ace was declared out from season for six to eight weeks. He met a shoulder injury and right now is undergoing a meticulous rehab process.
His exclusion was arguably the greatest setback to the Phillies. Given that he can repeat great performances without getting carried away, plus the shut-out games he can throw, the manager realises how big a loss he is to the side.
On a positive note, while the Phillies can easily grow frustrated with their fate, a splendid show by Utley in an extended rehab game can be a cause of sudden relief. Free from left knee pain, Utley assumed plate and struck flurry of hits in the game.
Though, there is no time-line available of his actual return to the season, the Phillies at-least can hope that Galvis is going to be replaced by a great hitter soon.
Until Utley comes back and Galvis remains on DL, the Phillies will be looking for reliable alternative. It is going to come at the further weakening of their offence, because the substitute more often than not proves ordinary.
The Phillies will wish to see Utley in the season at the earliest and witness their offence becoming a formidable force.
