Freddy Garcia shines as New York Yankees edge Texas Rangers 3-2 – MLB Update
New York Yankees continued their incredible winning streak as they edged the Texas Rangers 3-2 at Yankee Stadium in New York on Wednesday, August 15 in third game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Nick Swisher, who looked in commanding form in previous game, continued to impress the critics as he doubled to left in the third inning to break the deadlock and put Yankees on the board.
Curtis Granderson hit a sacrifice fly to centre and Eric Chavez added a single to left in the third to stretch the lead to 3-0.
Rangers fought back bravely in closing stages of the game. Josh Hamilton homered to right in the fourth and he added another solo home-run to right centre in the sixth to add spice to the proceedings but the Yankees held on to a one run lead to complete
a deserving victory.
"When you're seeing the ball good, you feel like you can pretty much hit anything," Hamilton said. "But, at that point in the game, you just want to get somebody on base and give yourself a chance to tie the ballgame up."
Starting pitcher Freddy Garcia gave up just two runs in six plus solid innings. Striking-out six batters, he improved his record to 7-5. Relief pitchers David Robertson and Rafael Soriano combined to pitch two scoreless innings to hold off Rangers’ powerful
offensive line-up.
"Our guys have done a tremendous job," Yankees' manager Joe Girardi said. "I applaud our pitchers."
"When you see one guy pitch and the other guy pitch, you're thinking you got to go out there and try to do the same," Garcia said in a post game interview.
With their impressive win on Wednesday, Joe Girardi and company took an impassable 3-0 lead in the series. Yankees humiliated their opponents 8-2 in the series opener.
Hiroki Kuroda displayed some top quality throwing skills to shut-out the Rangers in Game 2. It will be interesting to see if Yankees can put up another great show in the finale to complete their sweep against the American League West Division leaders.
