Freddy´s Star heading market for Roy Staddon 65th Birthday Celebration Selling Handicap Hurdle at Huntingdon
Freddy´s Star has been awarded with the highest starting price for the Roy Staddon 65th Birthday Celebration Selling Handicap Hurdle, set to take place at Huntingdon on Monday, April 09.
The veteran gelding is not in winning rhythm at the moment, but the bookmakers still have faith in his abilities. On March 11, the 10-year-old finished fifth in the Stratford Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle at Warwick.
Despite an ordinary effort last time around, the gelding is expected do well. He holds enough experience and will not let his recent poor performance affect his confidence. He does not have much time to warm up his legs, as the 2m110y event is about to begin.
Nine dangerous runners will compete for a cash prize of £1,689. The names of the contenders are: Freddy´s Star, Cortinas, Henry´s Hero, Monroe Park, Front Rank, Twentynineblack, Mad Professor, Simplified and Whispering Wind.
Freddy's Star needs an all out effort to come out of his lean patch. His last success came way back in March 2010, thus he looks desperate for victory.
He will be tested by Cortinas, who is equally experienced. The 10-year-old is also struggling with his form these days. In his last trip at the start of this month, Cortinas could only seize sixth place in the A. P. Security Veterans' Handicap Chase.
Due to a terrible performance, his confidence might be a bit shaky tonight. However, his experience will be crucial today, as majority of the runners is not performing well these days.
Henry's Hero is another powerful gelding, who can fancy his chances. The Get Well Soon Brodders Handicap saw him finishing third on the chart. Hence, he needs a slice of luck to hammer his opponents today.
Monroe Park also failed to display anything special last time around. On March 24, the spectators at Stratford saw him grabbing fifth spot on the table.
Since most of the participants are out of form at the moment, it will be a close contest. Freddy's Star has an obvious chance to win, but it will not be a straightforward trip for him. We wish the best of luck to everyone.
