The Rennes coach feels that other three teams in the semi-finals are stronger than Les Rouges et Noirs and SRFC need to be at their best if they want to progress any further in the competition
Stade Rennais defeated ESTAC Troyes 2-1 at Route de Lorient on Thursday to join Montpellier, Saint-Etienne and LOSC Lille, in the semi-finals of Coupe de la Ligue.
Frederic Antonetti’s side was less than convincing on the pitch and the coach has admitted that Les Les Rouges et Noirs should have done better and they didn’t dominate the match as much as they should have.
While talking to reporters, the 51-year-old stated that his side lacked the killing instinct and despite creating some good opportunities on the pitch, they were unable to score more goals, which could have put the game to bed. However, Rennes are in the
semis and the boss is pleased with that and is looking forward to go all the way in Coupe de la Ligue.
“We're in the semis, even though we didn't dominate the match from beginning to end.”
Antonetti added that Rennes did well to keep Troyes quiet on the pitch and the players showed a lot of commitment and desire to get a positive result.
“I have to congratulate the lads for their self-sacrifice and their desire. You have to be able to find the guts and determination to get the win, something we haven't excelled at in the past.”
The coach added that Stade Rennais could have lost the game and they are still the underdogs in the competition. Les Rouges et Noirs will take on Montpellier in the competition and Antonetti is expecting a tough test from the reigning French champions.
“There are positives too; we could have lost tonight. We're the underdogs in terms of the final four teams in the competition and we'll be playing at home to the reigning French champions [Montpellier], who are a very good team.”
The boss added that Rennes need to be at their best against Rene Girard’s side if they want to progress any further in Coupe de la Ligue.
“We know we'll need to be at our best."
