The Stade Rennais coach is feeling the heat following the club’s poor start to the campaign in which they have won just once in their five outings
Things are certainly far from being rosy in Breton following a poor and abysmal start to the campaign by Stade Rennais. Apart from a 3-2 win over newly-promoted SC Bastia, Frederic Antonetti’s side has failed to register a single win and has lost four times
– a run of results that see the club languishing in the relegation zone so early in the Championnat.
After failing to secure a place in Europe, many expected Rennais to make a strong start to the 2012/2012 Ligue 1 campaign. However, things have not gone according to plan at all and due to this, coach Frederic Antonetti, who is already under intense pressure,
chose to call an emergency meeting in order to discuss what has gone wrong to a team that has so much talent at its disposal.
Last night, L’Equipe claimed that a slagging session scheduled turned into a crisis meeting between Antonetti and the players. Four players in particular, spoke to the rest of the group: Feret, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jean-II-Makoun-c18139.
Although he has just arrived in Britain, Makoun was right to have a go at his new teammates who are far from the level they should be at. Defeat at the hands of relegation candidates Lorient has forced Antonetti to point his finger at many failings of the
team.
And, it was not only to tackle those who have been widely criticised by fans and media alike like Yann M’Vila. Several players are now under the threat of losing their current status at starters if the downward spiral continues. Captain, Romain Danze, has
given the look of a lost soul so far this season and his place in the squad is no more a safe bet.
Already under a lot of pressure to deliver the goods last season, Antonetti’s future is under a lot of scrutiny as many people believe that he is slowly edging towards the exit door. And, with just a year left on his contract, the club’s leaders will have
no remorse in showing him the way out which clearly means that it’s make or break time for both the coach and the players who have so far, failed epically.
