Frederic Lubach wins fourth stage and Azeddine Lagab takes overall lead in 2011 Tour d’Algerie
Comite De Provence team’s Frederic Lubach won the fourth stage of 2011 Tour d’Algerie on Thursday, June 30. Azeddine Lagab maintained his overall leader’s yellow jersey.
The race started in Tiaret and ended in El Khemis. The 29-year-old Frederic took a total of 3 hours, 37 minutes and 34 seconds to cover the distance of 162 kilometres.
After winning the stage, Lubach said, "I am proud to win this stage played on a course hard to manage, particularly in terms of the rise of Theniet El Had. The work of my teammates has made off in the end. The turn is over for me and I will work tomorrow
(Friday) for my teammates."
Martijn Knol of Pays Bas was the runner-up and Youcef Reguigui of Grpment Sportif Petrolier Algerie was in third place.
A group of four cyclists made their first breakaway which included Youcef Reguigui (Grpment Sportif Petrolier Algerie), Riadh Ghedamsi (Equipe Nationale De La Tunise), Steve Kerrien (Comite De Provence) and Meron Russom (Equipe Nationale D'erythre).
Youcef took the first sprint of the stage ahead of Raidh. After a few kilometres, Riadh maintained his pace and took a lead of 5 points in the second sprint, ahead of Youcef and Khaled.
In the last 5 kilometres, a group of four riders were caught by the peloton and Lubach launched attacked with the help of Martijn, but Lubach crossed the finish-line ahead of other cyclists.
Tarik Chaoufi of Equipe Nationale Du Maroc took the title of overall best mountain-climb classification ahead of Riadh Ghedamsi.
Azeddine Lagab won the overall lead with a timing of 13 hours, 52 minutes and 19 seconds. Adil Jelloul was runner-up with the difference of 19 seconds, while Natnael Berhane finished in the third spot.
Lagab said, "It remains a difficult step to complete. There will be two passes and third categories Kandeke Chrea. Remain focused until the end. I thank my teammates, especially Reguigui Youcef which worked extensively to ensure that I keep the yellow jersey.
The next stage will start in Ain Defla and Chrea. All the riders will cover the distance of 111 kilometres.
