Frederick Bousquet wins Men’s 50m freestyle heats: Day six – European LC Championships
Frederick Bousquet of France won the qualification rounds of Men’s 50m freestyle on sixth day of the ongoing European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Saturday, May 26.
The 31-year-old Bousquet demonstrated his stupendous efforts in the single lap freestyle event and qualified into the semi-final as strong contender for the first position.
Bousquet faced strong competition from Marco Orsi of Italy but with his alluring efforts, he managed to outperform him over the finishing wall for top position with the timing of 22.29 seconds.
His gruelling effort remained just 0.01 seconds faster from Orsi, who secured second best qualification spot of the event by reporting a time of 22.30 seconds.
Similarly, Orsi faced strong competition from France’s Alain Bernard in the single lap freestyle event and settled on the finishing blockade as silver medallist by submitting a time of 22.31 seconds.
Fourth finest qualification spot of the discipline was secured by Stefan Nystrand of Sweden, who remained just 0.02 seconds apart and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 22.33 seconds.
Nystrand was chased by Ari-Pekka Liukkonen of Finland, who ended his swim in fifth best place by producing a time of 22.38 seconds.
On the other hand, Czech Republic’s Petra Chocova dominated the qualification rounds of Women’s 50m breaststroke. The 25-year-old Chocova stayed considerably ahead of her supporters and occupied the top finishing spot of the event.
With her stupendous efforts, she stayed considerably ahead of her opponents and emerged on the finishing blockade for first position with the timing of 31.38 seconds.
She was chased by Caroline Ruhnau of Germany, who was 0.06 seconds apart and tapped the finishing end with the timing of 31.44 seconds for second position.
Subsequently, Ruhnau was followed by Sycerika McMahon of Ireland, who snared third best spot of the event by posting a time of 31.65 seconds.
Fourth finest qualifying position of the discipline was secured by Valentina Artemyeva of Russia, who clocked 31.83 seconds.
In addition, these qualifying swimmers will face each other in the second round of their respective disciplines where the top eight finishers will qualify for the final round.
