Frederico Cipollini eliminated on Day 2b – WPT Venice 2011
The WPT (World Poker Tour) Venice event hosted 213 contestants on the opening day, with 95 players surviving after Day 2b of the event at the Casino Di Venezia in Venice. Andrea Dato topped the official standings in the leaders’ board after Day 2b with a substantial lead. The Top-10 standings for the night were:
1. Andrea Dato 217,300
2. Raffaele Bertoluci 169,400
3. Steve O’Dwyer 159,000
4. Wanny Piazza 154,000

8. Umberto Calabro 124,000
9. Roger Hairabedian 120,600
10. Alessandro Fasolis 111,500
Roberto Romanello dominated the event for the most part of the night but had to finish at the sixth spot by the end. “I am the table captain…there is only room for one boss on this table,” were the two most consistently uttered sentences from the WPT Champions Club member, Romanello.
Frederico Cipollini busted by Salvatore Bonavena
Romanello started off the hand with a raise from the big blind, inducing the other contestants to raise the stakes of the game. Frederico Cipollini responded the call from the WPT Champions Club member and moved all-in with his 12,100 chips and ace and queen of diamonds under his sleeves. Cipollini’s bet was called by Salvatore Bonavena and Salvatore Castorina folded, followed by Romanello as well.
Bonavena was the favourite with his pair of pocket tens and his joy was raised to the ultimate level when jack of spades, ten of diamonds and four of clubs hit the flop. Three of diamonds on the turn brought another twist in the game, with Cipollini hoping for another diamond on the river to aim for a flush. His hopes were blown away when a three of spades hit the river, leaving Bonavena as the victorious in the hand with his three of a kind.
Cipollini was eliminated from the table but Romanello and Castorina were still engaged in the battle of supremacy. The day was finished but Romanello challenged Castorina for a heads up game, with both players bidding €20 to start the hand. When the two contestants revealed their cards, the whole table exploded with laughter, as they both having a king and an eight in their hands.
