Frederico Silva downs Ndayishimiye in Boys’ Singles second round – Wimbledon Championships 2011
Frederico Ferre Silva of Portugal wins his second round clash against Hassan Ndayishimiye of Burundi in the second round of the Boys’ singles category at Wimbledon Championships on Tuesday.
The 16-year-old Portuguese had to toil for two hours and thirty nine minutes before he concluded victory at 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, to qualify for the third round of the Grand Slam tournament.
Silva dropped the opening set early in the contest to fall on his back foot but recovered from his slump with great mastery to finish the game on the winning side. He was sloppy to take off in the opener but gradually gathered
up his pace as the game progressed and turned the tables on the Burundian in the second set. Silva then went on to win the second consecutive set and ejected Ndayishimiye from the mega event.
Ndayishimiye took the better of his opponent in the opening set and was in command of the second as well until the Portuguese broke his serve towards the end of the set to force his way right back in the competition. The Burundian
served with 67 per cent precision but committed eight double faults, which wore him out in the later parts of the game.
Silva’s serve game was not that much impressive, as he delivered just 57 per cent first serve, conceding seven double faults and 40 other unforced errors in the contest. The Portuguese kept winning crucial points on regularity,
something which Ndayishimiye failed to do so in the last two sets to let Silva away with victory.
The Burundian broke his opponent’s serve early to lead 4-2 in the first set but Silva reacted by striking his first break point of the match to bring the match back on even terms. However, some errant strokes from his racquet let
Ndayishimiye strike his second break and wrap up the opener at 6-4.
The Burundian was in command of the second set as well, until Silva cracked in a vital serve break in the twelfth game to stun him and bagged the set at 7-5. Once getting the required momentum, Silva never looked back in the final
set of the match and played risk-free tennis to oust Ndayishimiye from the competition. Silva registered his fifth serve break of the day to conclude victory at 6-4 and moved into the third round of Wimbledon, where he will face the eighth seed, Mate Pavic
of Croatia for a berth in the quarter-finals.
