Fredericton High School girls defeats Polyvalente Louis Mailloux to win provincial NBIAA title
Volleyball is a relatively recent sport but it has been able to achieve quite a lot of popularity in a short period of time.
It still does not enjoy the same level of success as basketball or football etcetera, but volleyball is increasingly being taken up by youngsters in various parts of the world. Not only has volleyball achieved success at the university level, it has also
become popular with young athletes at the high school level.
Various schools have taken up training programs in order to further promote the sport and harness the potential of the young budding athletes. These schools carry out regular tournaments that enable both the girls as well as the boys volleyball teams to
participate and improve their skills.
One such tournament was held over the weekend. The tournament was held at the provincial level and was known as the NBIAA JV volleyball tournament. Several teams took part in the event in order to show their skill and have a chance to win the top position.
However, one high school managed to stand prominent amongst them all.
Both the girls as well as the boys volleyball teams of the Fredericton High School were able to achieve a position in the tournament that took place. Interestingly, the girls’ team was able to better their male counter parts as the boys secured themselves
the second position whereas the girls were able to stay at the top of their game by winning the NBIAA junior varsity title.
The girls volleyball team of FHS had a match against the Polyvalente Louis Mailloux whom the FHS girls defeated in a clean sweep. The two back-to-back sets were won by the following set scores, 25-14 and 25-17.
As shown by the final set scores, the FHS girls did not only win the title of the tournament, but they did so in a decisive fashion.
The first set of the match started by FHS taking the lead for themselves. They were successful in putting the pressure on their rivals from the beginning and did not stop until the set had reached its close.
Despite the fact that Polyvalente Louis Mailloux tried to close in the gap, they did not succeed in overtaking FHS. As a result, the first set of the match went the way of the FHS girls team at 25-14.
Capitalising in on the momentum built in the first set of the game, FHS was able to come out strong in the second one as well. Polyvalente Louis Mailloux tried to step up their game but the effort seemed half-hearted and they were not able to challenge FHS
significantly. As a result, FHS bagged the second set of the game at 25-17 as well.
The final of the NBIAA that FHS has won so impressively had taken place in Bathurst.
