Frederike Johanna Heemskerk wins Women’s 200m freestyle gold – Jose Finkel Trophy
Frederike Johanna Heemskerk of FIAT/MINAS won gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle on second day of the 2012 Jose Finkel Trophy in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Tuesday, August 21.
Heemskerk met expectations of her supporters as she dominated the playoff of the four-lap freestyle event. She showed no leniency to her opponents and sustained her fastest qualification spot by clinching gold medal.
She remained considerably ahead of her toughest challenger throughout the race and stepped on the medal rostrum for gold medal with a timing of 1 minute and 55.43 seconds.
Her effort remained 1.60 seconds faster from Kelly Marie Subbins of CRF/RJ, who followed her on the victory stand for second position by producing a time of 1 minute and 57.03 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Jessica Bruin Cavalheiro of FFC/RJ, who stayed one body length away from her former finisher and secured bronze medal of the event by submitting a time of 1 minute and 58.03 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Manuella Lyrio of FIAT/MINAS, who remained 0.03 seconds slower from overpowering her foregoing finisher and settled on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer by reporting an effort of 1 minute and 58.06 seconds.
Fifth fastest qualification spot of the race was obtained by Larissa Martins Oliveira of ECP/SABESP, who remained 0.80 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing blockade with a timing of 1 minute and 58.86 seconds.
Subsequently, Oliveira was traced by her teammate, Tatiana Lemos de Lima, who remained just two strokes apart and concluded her race in sixth best place by clocking a time of 1 minute and 59.17 seconds.
Lima was followed by Natalia de Luccas of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM, who suffered a loss of one and a half body length from her preceding swimmer and finished seventh in the event with an effort of 2 minutes and 00.49 seconds.
Luccas was chased by her team-member, Julyana Kury Matheus, who remained 0.28 seconds behind and posted an effort of 2 minutes and 00.77 seconds for eighth position.
Furthermore, Heemskerk was overjoyed with her gold claiming effort in the butterfly discipline.
