Fredi Gonzalez retained until 2014 by Atlanta Braves - MLB Update
Atlanta Braves have confirmed that their manager Fredi Gonzalez will stay with the team until 2014 as they exercise the option on him.
The announcement is a clear reflection of the trust of the top management in Gonzalez’s ability to lead the unit.
In-fact, Gonzalez has been rewarded for helping the Braves put up strong performances in the last two seasons.
The club under him piled up wins during the regular seasons. Memories of September collapse in 2011 season apart, Gonzalez has certainly made Atlanta as one of the few premier clubs in the Major League Baseball.
Considering the fact that the Braves are showing improvements every year under the leadership of Gonzalez, his retention by the top management is a step in the right direction.
Gonzalez is far more familiar with the culture of the team at the moment than anybody else.
By many accounts, he is ideally poised to ascertain that the Braves continue with their dominant shows during the regular season and achieve some glory down the line.
For the 2013 season preparations, Gonzalez will be aware of what is required.
While he enjoyed services of the legendary Chipper Jones in the last season, it will not be the case next year. Some adjustments are due on the roster so that their offence remains as strong as it was during the 2012 season.
Recalling the disappointing September meltdown in 2011, Gonzalez takes pride from the fact that the same team that struggled that year experienced amazing success in 2012.
"There were a lot of questions asked about the collapse and they used every adjective to describe the last month of 2011," Gonzalez said. "I'm so proud of [the players]. Pretty much the same team came back in 2012. I think it was a club that learned collectively
from top to bottom, from me to the last guy on that roster, that it couldn't happen again. And we did it. We did not let it happen. We went out and built on it and had a pretty good season."
Gonzalez will be aiming to use Spring Training as the platform to make sure players remove bugs and flaws in their play and produce splendours next year.
