Fredrick Patacchia comes down hard on his rivals in Round 3 of ASP PRIME Nike Lowers Pro
Hawaii’s Fredrick Patacchia prevailed in the second heat of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) PRIME Nike Lowers Pro’s Round 3 (Round of 96) that went down at the renowned beach break of Lower Trestles in San Clemente, California, on Tuesday,
May 1.
With his successful result in his first heat of the event, Patacchia advanced through into the fourth round (Round of 48). His fellow countryperson Sebastien Zietz also managed to extend his life in the event after securing runner-up place.
With a large line-up of both promising up-and-coming as well as international talent in contention for top honours at the latest PRIME event, there was plenty of action in store for the surfing fans. The presence of the ASP World Tour competitors served
to raise the hype of the event even further, bringing even more attention to the competition. The flawless waves of Lowers Trestle seemed like a pretty good spot to bring some of the top surfers from around the globe together and put them in a battle for the
prestigious Nike Lowers Pro title.
The second heat of Round 3 pitted Patacchia against Zietz, New Zealand’s Jay Quinn and Australia’s Davey Cathels.
The clean two-to-four foot waves on offer at Lower Trestles offered plenty of scoring opportunities to the surfers, though they failed to make the most out of them.
Patacchia, however, seemed to be much more in control during the course of the four-man battle as compared to his rivals. Navigating his way through the waves, he locked on to a couple of really good scoring opportunities to get to a heat-total of 13.16
points. The score did not receive any serious threat from the other three rivals in the heat, thus allowing him to walk away with a comfortable win.
Zietz successfully made the Round 4 cut as well after making his way to a heat-total of 10.50 points, which proved enough to put him in runner-up place.
Quinn barely missed out on getting the Round 4 spot after finishing with a two-wave total of 10.40 points, while Cathels finished last with a heat-total of 10.20 points to join the Kiwi surfer in the elimination list.
