Fredrik Jacobson needs to repeat his past performances – Golf Feature
Fredrik Jacobson, who recently finished tied for the 18th position in the Valero Texas Open, is struggling to return to his form that earned him a victory in last year’s Travelers Championship.
Jacobson has played a total of eight events in the 2012 PGA Tour season and succeeded in making the cut in all of them.
Yet, he has failed to cheer his fans, as his best finish came in the Northern Trust Open in February, where he tied for the 13th place on the leaderboard.
Moreover, his percentage for the Driving Accuracy has massively decreased in the last one year. There was a time when he used to hit the fairways on each of the shots that he made.
Last year, he hit the fairways on each of the drives he made in the final two rounds of the Travelers Championship. That was the major reason for his success in the tournament.
In addition to that, he displayed an impressive game in the World Golf Championships - HSBC Champions in Shanghai, China, in November 2011.
He led the second and the third rounds of the event and entered the final stage with a two-stroke lead over Louis Oosthuizen.
However, Martin Kaymer made a late charge in the final round to surpass him on the leaderboard and pushed him back on the second position.
Yet, it was a phenomenal performance by the Swedish player, which earned him a respectable place among the golf fans all over the world. He also moved to the top-20 positions in the Official World Golf Rankings during that period.
This year, he started his PGA Tour campaign through the Northern Trust Open. He made a reasonable finished with a shared-13th position.
In the very next event, Accenture Match Play Championship, the first WGC of the year, he tied for the 33rd place.
The second WGC of the year, Cadillac Championship, witnessed him falter badly in the final round, as he carded a five-over par 77 to take the 68th place.
In the remaining events he has played so far, he has not been able to record a single top-10 finish, which is a source of concern for him.
Moreover, he only succeeded in breaking the par three times in the eight appearances. Among them, three-under par 277 was the best that helped him tie for the 16th position on the leaderboard.
According to golf analysts, Jacobson has the talent and skills that can rank him among the best golf players around the world. However, there are some areas he needs to work hard on.
There is no doubt that he is consistent in making the cuts in each of the tournaments that he plays. However, he must maintain consistency in recording low scores, which will help him take better positions.
Jacobson’s putting has always been a key to his success in the past few years. Therefore, he needs to work a little harder on his driving and find the greens using as fewer strokes as he can.
This way, he can become one of the dangerous players in the game of golf, who threaten their opponents just by their appearance in the tournaments.
