Free Agency expected to heat up with Ryan Suter, Zach Parise off the market -NHL Update
The National Hockey League (NHL) free agency is expected to heat up as two of the hottest commodities, Ryan Suter and Zach Parise, have been taken off the market by Minnesota Wild by signing off to a 13-year, $98 million.
With a number of players still lined up to be re-signed or acquired by teams around the league, franchises can be seen to be working harder in order put their backup plans into force after losing out on the two top prospects.
There are currently two players who are in the spotlight. They are not free agents but are instead, those who are looking to be traded from their teams in order to pursue a better career with another club.
One of them is Vancouver Canucks veteran goalie, Roberto Luongo, who has led the Canadian franchise to winning the Presidents’ Trophy for the past two seasons straight along with a 2011 Stanley Cup Finals appearances.
"At the end of the day, I think it's time to move on. And I'm OK with that," Luongo said on the Jeff O'Neill Show on 99.3 The Fox in Vancouver. "I had a great six years in Vancouver. It's a really wonderful city. I really enjoyed my time there. Unfortunately,
I was not able to bring a Stanley Cup there. Probably my biggest regret. But it'll be remembered for six great years."
For Luongo, Chicago Blackhawks and Florida Panthers are the top two choices, but it depends whether Vancouver Canucks will be able to secure something solid in trade for a highly capable goaltender.
Rick Nash is second on the line as the veteran captain has wanted a trade from Columbus Blue Jackets ever since the team ended at the bottom of the league for another season. Terming it better for his team and himself, Nash has not been confirmed by any
team as of yet but is looking towards making it a done deal before the season kicks off.
Detroit Red Wings, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks can be termed to be the top teams going after Rick Nash, indicating that a deal might be in place soon.
