Free Agent David West looking forward to recovery and a title run – NBA Update
New Orleans Hornet’s David West is surely going to be one of the most sought after free agents when the NBA lockout finally ends. The player sat down for an interview recently and revealed that he will be ready for next season
and wants to be part of a winning team.
David West has been out of action with an injury which could jeopardize his chances of interesting elite teams, but the player allayed any such fears. He believes that by the time, the training camps will kick off in October, he
will be ready to step on the court. At the moment, it’s not even likely that the camps would start then, with all signs pointing to a prolonged lockout that could cost games let alone the training camps.
West is one of the few players who could actually benefit from the situation. The extra rest will give him more time to recover and prove his fitness to interested NBA teams, and there are plenty of those around.
West is one of the better power forwards around, and certainly the best who will be a free agent. The player is a force on both ends of the court and is renowned for his pick and roll game, something many point guards around the
league would value a lot.
Opting out of a $7.5 million year at the New Orleans Hornets has been interpreted by many as a sign that the player wants one big pay check before the sun sets on his career. However, David West revealed that money is not his primary
motivation.
The player, who is 30 years old, has a burning to desire to compete for the NBA World Championship, something that didn’t seem likely to happen in New Orleans,
“I talked to my agent, and my whole thing is, I just want to see what’s out there,” West said. “I’m not saying New Orleans isn’t a possibility. I want to see what’s out there. And I want an opportunity to win. I’ll be 31 at the
end of the summer and no matter how great I feel physically and mentally, every year you don’t win is a wasted year, a blown year, an opportunity you’ll never get back. I don’t want any more of those years. I’ve played eight years. And I want the next three
or four years to be different.”
The fact that the player did not close the door on a return to the Hornets would give one last bit of hope to the franchise, who are desperate to re-sign the forward in order to improve their chances of hanging on to Chris Paul.
