Free Agent catcher Ramon Hernandez could be heading to Colorado Rockies -MLB Update
As the Colorado Rockies are looking to basically add depth to every aspect of their game, free agent catcher, Ramon Hernandez, has caught their eye and according to latest reports, the Major League Baseball (MLB) club is looking into signing the player before
another team can get their hands on the player.
The Rockies had one of the worst offensive performances during the 2011 regular season and in order to reshape their team for the New Year, it has been learned that Colorado has contacted Hernandez’s agent over recently in order to start the negotiation
process with the free agent.
As the Rockies look towards signing the player for a single year contract according to sources within the organisation, Hernandez is eyeing a more long term deal with the team he signs with during the offseason.
The 35-year-old hit .282 with 12 home runs and 36 RBIs in 91 games with the Cincinnati Reds, a team which he has played with for three seasons now and have so far failed in announcing any official package for the player in showing their interest in re-signing
him for the upcoming season.
In order to accommodate Hernandez on the team, the Colorado Rockies have also shown interest in trading Chris Iannetta sometime this winter to another team, which at the moment seem to be the Los Angeles Angeles, who are in return keen of having the player
on their roster.
Before the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) came into play earlier this November, Hernandez was classified as a type A agent, which would obviously cost the team more, but since its introduction and implementation, the veteran catcher is now in
the type B free agent category, making thing a lot better for the Colorado Rockies in terms of negotiating his financial terms and conditions.
Now due to the CBA, the Rockies will not have to forfeit their future draft pick and can resume with every day business.
More developments on whether Ramon Hernandez will be joining the Colorado Rockies in the near future are expected in upcoming days as the team enters the process of beginning talks.
