Free Practice session 2 of Spanish Grand Prix owned by Red Bull’s Mark Webber – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 Red Bull Racing team’s driver, Mark Webber, has stayed at the top in the second Free Practice Session on the Barcelona race weekend. He was also the front-runner in the Free Practice session 1 and he retained his place in the afternoon practice
as well.
After a successful morning free practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix, the Practice Session 2 of the weekend took place in the afternoon, on May 20, at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona. All F1 teams have participated for their race practice and
tested the cars on sets of both hard and soft tyres.
The Red Bull driver Webber completed his laps with the fastest time of 1 minute and 22.470 seconds in Practice Session 2. He was closely followed by McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton, who was only 0.039 seconds off the pace, as he split Webber and his team-mate
Sebastian Vettel in the last moment of the practice session.
Hamilton switched to soft tyres and after that he successfully reduced his gap with Red Bull’s Webber, while Vettel stayed in third place.
McLaren’s other driver, Jenson Button, took fourth and was 0.718 seconds off the pace. Ferrari’s driver, Fernando Alonso, enjoyed his practice run on the top using hard compound rubber in the first half-hour of the practice session and finished his second
practice in fifth place.
Mercedes duo seemed strong in the Practice Session 2 as they enjoyed a good run in their trouble-free practice on Friday. The Petronas-sponsored team driver, Michael Schumacher, who was in seventh during the second practice has said, “We have had quite a
reasonable Friday and have clearly demonstrated an upwards tendency with our improvements seeming to work well. Saying that, the other teams have improved too, so without having had a chance to look deeper into the data, I would say that we may be fighting
for the third row.”
Ferrari’s other driver Felipe Massa finished his practice run in eighth ahead of Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi, who was at the ninth of spot. Sauber-Ferrari’s second driver Sergio Perez was 2.0 seconds off the pace and completed his run in eleventh place.
Both drivers from Renault, Nick Heidfeld and Vitaly Petrov, were unimpressive as they finished their practice run in the 10th and 12th spots respectively.
The Hispania Racing Team again completed their run at a snail’s pace, similar to their performance in the previous races of the ongoing season. Both the drivers, Narain Karthikeyan and Vitantonio Liuzzi, were the last runners of Practice Session 2.
After a successful Friday free practice sessions, the teams are ready for the qualifying round of the Spanish Grand Prix today.
