  1. IN order to receive speech therapy services that are covered by insurance/your school, they need to qualify for services in the area of speech and language.  Your private school should have a speech/language pathologist available.  Has your child received speech therapy in the past?  What happened as to why he/she is not being served?  If not, then you should talk to the teachers /SLP herself and address your concerns.  The SLP at this point, will ask you to sign an assessment plan, so that you agree to the child being assessed.  The child then will be screened and the SLP will discuss the academic concerns with teachers, and if necessary, the SLP will undergo speech/language testing.  In order for your child to qualify for direct services, they need to score below the 7th percentile(meaning that out of 100 children, your child scored in the bottom 7) on specific aspects of each test, if this is for language testing.  If it is for speech(articulation on certain sounds) testing (like mispronouncing /r/ or /s/) then the child may qualify if they should have developmentally acquired this sound.  Talk to your school's SLP and/or resource provider.
