At stumps on the first day of the three-match CSA Under-19 Competition, Free State Under-19s lead by 19 runs with 4 wickets remaining in the 1st innings against Griqualand West Under-19s, at University of Orange Free State Ground, Bloemfontein.
Griqualand West Under-19s, who chose to bat after winning the toss, were caught in trouble as life on a bowling wicket was not a bed for roses for the batsmen.

The arrival of skipper, DS Rosier on the crease changed Griqualand West’s fortunes as this partnership led the side to 47, before Bruwer, lost his wicket after jabbing a knock of 21 runs.
Things were now taking an ugly turn of the batting side, as the wicket was doing a lot more for them to handle, while Free State Under-19s were taking full advantage of the conditions. The bowling was backed by some outstanding fielding which prevented the batsmen from settling.
Rosier and S Arends formed the next big partnership, as the batsmen took the score to 108 before Arends perished with 27 to his name.
It was then a sad story for Griqualand West Under-19s as the remaining batsmen fell without scoring anything worth mentioning, nonetheless, the skipper stayed unbeaten on 70 as he saw his side crumble on 151.
