Free State v Namibia - CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition - Day 1 – Live Score and Update
Free State 238 v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Namibia-c2964 4/1 (5.3 ov) - Namibia trail by 234 runs with 9 wickets remaining in the 1st innings
At stumps on the first day of the three-day match between Free State and Namibia, the latter trail by 234 runs with nine wickets in hand at University of Orange Free State Ground, Bloemfontein.
Free State, were put into bat after Namibia won the toss. The fielding side obviously wanted to restrict the opposition on a small total as their intensions were exposed when with just four runs on the board, they grabbed their first wicket with Free State opener, LN Mosena, perishing for four. The batsman was trapped in front of stumps by Klazinga.
This was the worst possible start for Free State and with the weak batting line-up; this was the last thing they wanted to happen to them.
On the final delivery of the same over (first over), the bowler struck again when he dismissed number-three batsman RS Second for nil.
It was then time for skipper, PJ http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Biljon, to come in the middle and with the bowlers exhibiting extreme hostilities towards the batsmen; this was not a good time for anyone to come out to bat.
The batting side was in trouble, and needed a solid partnership from someone to get them out of this mess.
However, nothing was working for them as with only 11 runs on the board, Free State saw J van Dyk take a walk of shame back to the pavilion after losing his wicket to Klazinga for four.
The batting duo of PJ van Biljon and P Botha was up next, and the two batsmen finally managed to pose a serious challenge as they countered the bowlers, taking the score to 89 before the latter fell after smashing 36 off 54.
The next partnership that transpired between the skipper and RK Terblanche was beyond anyone’s imagination as the two batsmen pulled off an amazing performance that not only saved the day for them but also took the sting out of the bowling attack.
With Biljon hammering 70 and Terblanche belting a knock of 87, Free State managed to post a decent first innings score of 238.
Namibia then faced 5.3 overs and scored only four runs for the loss of one wicket as the day came to its end.
