Free State v Northerns – CSA Provincial One-Day Competition, 2012/13 – Match Update
Propelled by half-tons from Jandre van Wyk, Michael Erlank, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rudi-Second-c87072, Free State went on to claim a 6-wicket victory over the Northerns during their match in the ongoing CSA Provincial One-Day Competition, played at the Chevrolet Park in Bloemfontein
on November 11.
The Northerns won the toss and opted to bat first, and despite the efforts of Corné Dry (8.4-1-45-3), and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Malusi-Paul-Siboto-c74080 (9-1-45-2), the team managed to post a decent 246 before they were all out.
Opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shershan-Naidoo-c89998 (4) were both
dismissed via run out, the former by Lefa Mosena in the 15th over, and the latter by wicketkeeper Rudi Second in the 21st over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shaun-von-Berg-c2506 (11) and Eden Links (17) both managed to get starts, but failed
to move beyond that, while Heinrich Klaasen (0) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lerutla-Matheko-Gershon-Masekela-c72646 (1) were both dismissed for paltry scores. By the 49th over, the Northerns were all out at 246.
Free State, in comparison, needed only 46 overs to chase the target down successfully, at the expense of just 4 wickets. Openers Jandre van Wyk (50) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Nicholas-Erlank-c76125 (51) got the team off to a steady start, with an 87-run partnership, which came to an
end with the dismissal of van Wyk off van Buuren in the 13th over.
His successor http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lefa-Nelson-Mosena-c72426 (11) did not manage to contribute much, but joined Erlank for a 22-run stand before von Berg (10-0-57-2) took him out of the game. Rudi Second drove the rest of the innings forward with an unbeaten 77, and after the dismissal of
Erlank off Naidoo, joined skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Petrus-Johannes-van-Biljon-c81982 van Biljon (31) for a 79-run partnership for the 4th wicket.
Their joint efforts got Free State up to 222 by the 44th over, after which http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Biljon fell prey to von Berg. However, the team lost no more wickets after that, and Second was joined by Botha (14*) for an unbeaten 25-run stand which got the team
safely up to 247, with 6 wickets and 24 balls remaining.
