  1. If you wrote it, you do own the copyright. I can't be entirely sure, but copyright is mostly uniform under international law. No one can sell you copyright; if you wrote it, put your name on it, and put the date on it, you own the copyright.

You already paid for copyright with your hard work; don't pay anyone for something you already have!

Of course, it is possible that you have different laws in the Republic of Ireland, but if you just pop across into the UK, the law there is the same as here in Australia: you write it, you put the copyright symbol on it along with the year and your name, and you own the copyright. That's all there is to it. And all you would have to do is pop across the border with a copy of your script, and the fact that it's been in the UK means that it would be covered by UK copyright law, and if it's covered by UK copyright, it's covered by copyright in every First- and Second-world country on the planet, as well as most Third-world countries.

I don't know who's trying to rip you off, but as an artist, you owe it to yourself not to let them!

Actually, if you email the script to me in Australia, with your copyright data (date and name), it is immediately covered by copyright.

I wouldn't mind having a read, by the way. I'm no expert, but I have written quite a few playscripts, and have provided dramaturgical advice on a number of plays and films.
