Free agent Francisco Rodriguez said to be charged with domestic abuse – MLB News
As the Milwaukee Brewers are strategising for the offseason buying, there were reports of one of their players, free agent reliever Francisco Rodriguez’s being charged with one count of domestic abuse in a suburban Milwaukee courtroom.
It is said to be the result of the alleged scuffle he had with his fiancée in September. If convicted, he faces up to nine months in jail and $10,000 fine for misdemeanour charge.
The case was filed in Waukesha Country Circuit Court as his fiancée had accused him of cheating on her. The case has slowly started garnering media attention as it was not widely reported initially. With the first appearance to be made in the court on November 12, it is to be seen what decision the court makes.
So far there have been no comments from the Milwaukee Brewers. In a year that has seen the ups and downs for the Brewers, the whole proceedings will be observed and followed with great interest given the bearing it can possibly have on the team as a whole.
Brewers have not yet decided about whether or not they are interested in offering any contract to Rodriguez as he stands out to be a free agent at the moment. There were earlier reports that Jose Veras has already parted ways with the team by electing to be a free agent.
The Milwaukee Brewers did not have a particularly good season this year. They were expecting to make it to the playoffs when the year began. However, as season progressed, they seemed to be experiencing a downward spiral.
That could well be seen in the very first half of the season when the Brewers lost majority of their games, with the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals preceding the team. It was the Cincinnati Reds that occupied the top position in the National League Central.
All said, bullpen’s performance – nonetheless, saw somewhat of improvement in the second half of the season even though they had a total of 29 blown saves this year.
Be that as it may, for the manager Ron Roenicke had not expressed complete disappointment when he spoke about the matter last month.
"I can't think that way," manager Ron Roenicke said. "It's a long season, and we're going to go through [periods] where our offense isn't going to hit, where our defense is going to be bad, our pitching is going to be bad. That's part of the season, and why you play so many games. Nobody is going to be good in all those areas the whole season, so, no, I don't think like that."
With that and the Rodriguez’s case in court, it will be interesting to see how the Brewers move forward from here.
