Free agent Jonny Gomes signs with Oakland Athletics – MLB News
The Oakland Athletics have signed free agent out-fielder Jonny Gomes on Friday evening giving him a Major League contract for future MLB season.
Though, no confirmation has been made by the Athletics franchise but one particular inside MLB source told some reporters that the official announcement will be coming in few days. Experts know as how Gomes can hit lefties as his past record pretty much reveals his extraordinary hitting record. Having eight years of Major League playing experience, Gomes went hitting at .209 with 14 home-runs, 43 RBIs and .325 OBP last season and received much appreciation from several baseball experts.
Coming in the Athletics roster will be a great point forward for his career as he always believes in hard work and full determination wherever one would be playing.
In recent past, his statement for his own game and playing strategy was appreciated by many when he explained in the media, “I don't think you can really look ahead right now in t his organization, I don't want to look ahead, because I don't know what's going to happen. Because it's just obvious something is going to happen.”
He added, “I'm just looking forward to helping the team win this season and go out with a bang and have some good numbers on my resume when the season's over. That's been pretty much my whole career coming up, [I'm used to] being behind some of the higher-ranked guys. But I just play to play. I never played to get moved up.”
His arrival in the Athletics roster is certainly a positive sign for entire franchise. The Athletics also want Gomes’ kind of player who can lead from the front. They initially did look for other free agents to sign but Gomes was the only one who was best suited for them.
Before signing him, the Athletics carefully looked at his past career stats which were consistent at .242 with 118 homers, 364 RBIs and .329 OBP. His consistent past performances with Tampa Bay Rays along with Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals stood tall against many and that is the main reason why the Athletics management selected him for their next year’s campaign.
