Free agent Mike Napoli still seeks new team – MLB Update
Veteran catcher free agent Mike Napoli is still seeking a potential new team in the Major League Baseball season. Since he has filed for free agency, many teams showed interest to sign Napoli but still no positive progress has been made.
Though the Boston Red Sox management has earlier tried some good efforts and did talk to Napoli and his agent but somehow both sides are still reluctant to agree on a mutual agreement.
“There’s really nothing to comment on, As with any free agent, until it’s done, it’s not done. We continue to work on different ways to improve the team,” said Boston Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington Wednesday afternoon.
He added, “I’ll comment on it as soon as I can, but I can’t right now. We’ve had some more dialogue. I wouldn’t classify it as one way or the other. We’re trying to improve the team and hopefully we can do that.”
Cherington further said about potential talks with Napoli, “I haven’t seen that, I’m not going to comment on discussions we’re having, other than to say we’re still talking. We’re still working through issues and will continue to do so.”
Napoli, a former Texas Rangers hard hitter and a talented catcher, is a highly gifted individual and knows his game well. He is considered one of the most talented Major League catchers of recent time.
His new affiliation with any Major League team will be a great thing itself. However, he is still seeking a potential new contract after playing a wonder full 2012 MLB season.
He was quite consistent in the last Major League event in which he played key role in many games. Overall he achieved consistent stats of .227 hitting average along with 24 home runs, 56 RBIs and .343 OBP.
Not only in the past season, but Napoli has been quite consistent with career stats. He currently possesses career .259 hitting average along with 146 home runs, 380 RBIs and .356 OBP.
Meanwhile, next few weeks are critical when Napoli will be signing a new deal with a leading Major League Baseball team.
