Free agent closer Brian Wilson generating interest this offseason – MLB Update
Sources tell that former San Francisco Giants and current free agent closing pitcher Brian Wilson is generating interest from many Major League Baseball teams this offseason.
Wilson last played for the Giants in 2012 Major League Baseball season and did a wonderful job on the mound. He showed his valour and improved with every game.
He finished the season on a high note with 9.00 ERA along with one save, two strikeouts and 3.00 WHIP. Not only in the last Major League Baseball competition, but Wilson has also a very good track record of past six years. His career stats of 3.21 ERA along
with 171-saves, 340 strikeouts and 1.34 WHIP also makes him a good role player in the biggest baseball league in the world.
Since arriving in the Major League in 2006, he never played anywhere else except with the San Francisco Giants. Though many experts still believe that the Giants will reconsider him for another season but mostly other experts also say that his injures have
put him in the jeopardy.
Especially the Giants have this fear that Wilson is not a reliable player and have a tendency towards suffering injuries. This was the main reason as the Giants did not give him another deal and now he as a free agent looking for a new deal in the big league.
“We left it with, we’ll continue staying in touch and wait to see how things develop — the market for him, how he feels about his relative options and where we sit in that,” San Francisco Giants assistant GM Bobby Evans said recently for Wilson.
He added, “There’s clearly an understanding we have interest in keeping the door open to bringing him back. He needs to assess what his other options are.”
He further said, “I think Brian understands his most important part of his 2013 season is the last three months, not the first three months, in terms of performance. I think he understands those are more critical than being out there Opening Day.”
Wilson is still optimistic that he will surely get a new contract with a leading Major League team.
