Free-agent market expected to be active from next week – MLB News
The free-agent market is expected to see a new flurry of activity as the Thanksgiving Day came to end. It is mostly at this time of the year when the clubs expedite the process of striking a contract with any player they deem capable and instrumental for
them.
Many agents agree with this proposition. While the likes of Albert Pujols, C. J Wilson, Prince Fielder, Aramis Ramirez and others are available as free-agents now, which team will finally get them is something that can only be left to speculation now.
Because some of the players, who are considered important and backbone of their own teams, demand a heavy sum for any contract, despite the appeal of the players’ calibre every club makes their move with caution and care.
This is precisely what is being witnessed right now. Prince Fielder, for instance, will be a great asset for the Milwaukee Brewers as he joined with Ryan Braun to take the team to many victories, but the team cannot seem to have enough to offer to him to
re-sign.
As next Monday will be the day of Winter Meetings, all 30 clubs of Major League Baseball will be represented there. This will bring a new sense of spicing up in the market for the free-agents.
"The biggest thing with getting involved in free agency is sometimes the players just aren't available that you may need," a National League GM said. "A lot of it is timing and what's available."
From Jose Reyes to Mark Buehrle to the Albert Pujols, every name has a magnetic charm of their own. That is the reason why the next week’s meeting will probably see a lot of negotiations on these players.
Marlins’ president of operations commented that they organisation will be coming out aggressively during the negotiations to hopefully acquire the best for his team.
"I know this maybe came out of left field for a lot of people," said Marlins’ president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest, "but we want to be aggressive."
It remains to be seen now as to which player goes to what team prior to Spring Training which is right around the corner now.
