Free-agent reliever Brandon League signs three-year contract with Los Angeles Dodgers – MLB News
Free-agent reliever Brandon League has signed three-year contract with Los Angeles Dodgers. The team management announced and confirmed his new deal.
Dodgers’ General Manager Ned Colletti commented on signing League and also explained about all the aspects related with him as he said, “We’re excited to bring back a key member of our bullpen, which was a team strength last season, We were very pleased with what Brandon provided us after we acquired him. He pitched in a couple of different roles including the closer role most of the last month where he was very effective.”
He added, “He gives the club someone who has saved more than 50 games the last two seasons and fortifies our bullpen in a number of ways. It's imperative that to compete in the NL West teams need a strong bullpen with power arms, experience and depth.”
Brandon League finished 2012 Major League Baseball season with 3.13 ERA along with 15 saves, 54 strike-outs and 1.36 WHIP.
League is a talented player and knows his worth. Though he had a good season with the Dodgers but still as he becomes a free agent, he and his agent started exploring different options.
Different sources have also reported that if Dodgers would have not signed him on time, many other teams were also chasing him and they would have gone to give him a lucrative deal.
For over the years, things have worked well for League. He started his career in 2004 with the Toronto Blue Jays and later came into the Seattle Mariners’ franchise in 2010. In his early days, he was not known for his fast balls but with the passage of time, he has established his pitching with the right kind of focus and energy.
He joined the Dodgers in 2012 and did well in his first year. He pitched in right areas and saved many games for Los Angeles. He was brought just to maintain the momentum.
On the other hand, since he has re-signed with the Dodgers, many experts think that it will give a positive boost to Los Angeles side to compete well in the next season.
