Has anyone ever got a free upgrade to first class on a flight by mentioning you're on your honeymoon?

  1. It is on the way you are presented

Nicely dressed and polite,,not drunk etc

remember people in higher classes have paid a lot of money to be there,,

I have been offered a free upgrade many times,,,

Incidently staff travel with leading airlines,,,is not first class it is on stand by basis only,,,,

a plus if there is a seat available in 1st,,,

  2. We pulled it off, but that was just post 9/11 and the plane was half empty..

I advise against going up and saying 'It's Our Honeymoon'!  A much more successful tactic can be for one of you to go up to the counter and say, are there any upgrades available for purchase.  Its our honeymoon, I'd like to treat the wife/husband.  You may not score a free one, but I've seen this one result in drastically price reduced upgrades.   Of course, it depends on how full the plane is and what route your are flying...  Another factor is you need 2 seats...

  3. hi there I work for BA in check in and to be honest with you the best answer is not to say anything. Ifyour on a flight for example like mauritius or nairobi which has a high number of "honeymooners" on it you have to spare a thought for us poor check in people, we get asked this question hundreds of times a day everyday and we hear all sorts to try and get an upgrade ranging from honeymoon to illness and any other excuse in the book we have heard them all. The best Idea is just be yourselves dont push the checkin agent by mentioning the upgrade word as refusal often offends people and bear in mind that the agent has probably been asked lots of times already. I in one day counted how many times i got asked the upgrade word for all the flights i was checking in and departing and it was 380 in one shift.

Just please spare a little thought for us guys

  4. My cousin did because they only just made it to the airport on time after the wedding, and they would've had to sit apart on the plane, and the stewardess thought that would be horrible on their honeymoon (it was a long haul flight as well), so she told the captain and he upgraded them as there was space and the aircraft was fully boarded, and they even got complimentary champagne and meals etc., as well as the captain dedicating the flight to them!

That was a BA flight back in around 2001.

  5. No. Upgrades are rare nowdays and more likely to be given to those with the airline's loyalty/mileage membership card. My husband has been upgraded because of this (he didn't ask BTW).

Actually, watching people pathetically attempting to get upgrades is a rare source of amusement at airports. I'm pregnant, we're on our honeymoon, I don't feel well, are the most common stories I've heard.

  6. my dads a pilot for ba, so i get first class whenever i fly.. LUCKy me :D

  7. I haven't gotten an upgrade for that reason.. but my brother did on his way to Italy with his new wife. They were on the way to their honeymoon and mentioned it.. Both were sent to first class.. I'm not entirely sure if it was only because of the honeymoon though.. My brother at the time weight 360 pounds and his wife looked about the same. He has lost weight since then though! He is doing good. They could have moved him for that as well to make him comfy. Gosh.. I hope he doesn't read this ^^
