Free antivirus systems?

im looking for a free anti virus which one do u recomand? i use a windows xp professional service pack 2 i need something quite powerful (Free) because i do abit of downloading so i need something that will protect me well

I would recommend that you use Avira as your antivirus. You may also want to add to that: Spyware Doctor Starter Edition, Spybot, and Malwarebytes.

Avast is probably going to be the most recommended. And last time I checked AVG didn't have a free version anymore. Just a free trial.

go for AVG 8 free edition covers everything except firewall, I download a lot

One anti-virus alone is not good enough, you need a good firewall, anti-virus & anti-spyware. See link below.

The latest AVG is a resource hog.

Free Ant-Virus such as AVAST or AVG only offers limited protection if you want the full protection of these programs you have to pay for it.

Antivir download from filehippo.com. Once you install it make sure you go to the configuratio page and choose expert mode. Then change the settings to highest security level possible. All settings including scan of archives and all file types. If configured properly antivir is much much better than any other free or payed program. To learn windows secrets visit my website. avg is probably recommended... either that or u cud try mcafee

For free antivirus i highly recommend getting Avast. You can get it at avast.com. I've been using it and it's highly effective at removing viruses.
