  1. Consider buying a Linux magazine.  It'll give you lots of information and they often come with a distro on a disk!  Or there's the Linux bible, which comes with a whole slew of distros.

There are no activation keys, you can even download the source code!  Linux is free as in liberty, as well as usually costing nothing.  It's not Windows, it's not Mac, it's the future.

  2. http://www.mandriva.com/ or http://www.pclinuxos.com/ are ideally suited for beginners (no drivers, no complicated configurations required ), and you don't even need to install them to try them, just boot from the optical disk and run them in Live-CD mode.

Linux Os's don't use activation key, they're free.

  3. Activation key?  Most linux distros are open source.  You shouldn't need something like that.

If you're talking about red hat or something like that, then you've got to actually purchase it.

  4. I wont give you a download link

    But search for torrents

    Aka

    Linux torrents

    and it should come up

  5. Forget everything you've learned from using Windows. Linux is free, no activation keys needed.

"Linux" is really any OS based on the Linux kernel. There are tons of operating systems based on the Linux kernel called "distributions" or "distros"

Here are some of my favorite Linux distros:

    http://linuxmint.com/

    http://www.ubuntu.com/

    http://www.mandriva.com/

Personally, my favorite distro is Linux Mint, but feel free to try out any distro you want:
