i dont have cable tv, and i was wondering come feb. will i need 2 get the converter box and i heard that you can maybe get it for free? if not where and how do i get it

  1. They're not exactly free, but you can get two $40 off coupons from the US government.  You can apply for a couple at http://www.dtv2009.gov.

    The converter boxes retail for about $50 to $70.  You will also need a good TV antenna.  If you already have one, it may be all you need.  http://www.antennaweb.org is a good resource for choosing and installing antennas.

    The DISH Network DTVPal is the only CECB that we know of that will have this feature.

    The DTVPal is expected to be capable of allowing the user to set event timers. This feature is useful when used with a VCR or a DVD recorder for recording programs in the future. An event timer will change the channel on the converter box at a predetermined time.

    Events can be created in different ways such as choosing a program from the program guide, browsing the channel banner, using an event search, or by time, date and channel.

    Events can be created, edited, or deleted by selecting them from a list of timers. Timers can be scheduled to occur daily, weekly or Mon-Fri and they can be set to repeat.
