is there a free DVR service that is set up like Tivo or just set up like a vcr? and if there is where can i get one?

  1. I think you can run one of those open-source MythTv boxes. Costs a few hundred to build, but it depends on what you want from it. Can be cheaper or slightly more.

    I'm not sure if you can rewind tv shows on-demand, but it stores shows and such. Does the rest.
