ok so my friend used to work at this small golf course that has a 9 hole regulation course and a 9 hole par 3, and on the par 3 they have lights on at night so you can play the 9 hole par 3 and see what ur doing. well he told me that they actually leave these lights on all night after closing! also he said that there are no alarms on the course the only alarm would be if you were to break into the clubhouse. my question is, with the lights on all night, if me and some friends were to stop by the par 3 after closing and play nine holes for free when noones there, is there anyway we could be caught and if so what would the consequences be for someone with a clean record? also me and two friends would probably do this like once a week like on a saturday night sometime between midnight and 4 am and the course itself is not visible from the main road and the nearest houses are like half a mile from the course parking lot.

  1. Trespass is the first charge.

Then you need to remember that golf courses use sprinkler systems to water the greens at night.  If you walk onto a freshly watered green you can do damage to the sod.  That means that you could also be charged with destruction of private property or vandalism.

There is also the charge of theft for not paying the bill to play.

  2. Be careful about crossing (or going on them)Golf courses at night I have been chased and threatened by men with dogs several times.

  3. You will be charged with "Criminal Trespass" and potentially "Theft of Services". Most mini-golf courses around here keep the balls/clubs inside so you'd have to break in to get them, adding more charges. The lights are left on for the purpose of helping the police see if someone is there when they shouldn't be. Most police departments make it a point to check closed business on a regular basis. Have you also considered the possibility that there are alarms & that they just don't tell the employees?

EDIT- Not everyone owns clubs/balls so I didn't presume that you did, since you just as easily could not have. Yes, the police may drive down the course when checking. You'd be supprised where trespassers have been caught where they thought the police would never bother to check.

  4. That is trespassing and theft at the very least. If your dad is like mine, you've been told a hundred times, "Nothing good can happen from being out after midnight."

    Be a responsible person.
